About Me

I've been training at Pure Martial Arts since I was eight years old starting off with jiu-jitsu, and every once in a while I did kickboxing. I had a love-hate relationship with martial arts when I was a kid (maybe because the sport requires a bit of mental resilience that I didn't possess at a young age), and I quit all together around age twelve. But I came back to PMA when I was fifteen--participating with the ladies kickboxing classes--I fell in love and now it's a part of who I am. From then I was determined to be the best fighter I could be and I made a promise to myself to not give up again. It wasn't easy to keep going when I felt weak at times or unmotivated, but I knew in my heart that it was important that I kept showing up and doing the best I could in the moment and enhance my abilities. Now, at four years (and counting) of committed training and determination, I am a kickboxing coach at the gym I grew up in.

Not only am I a kickboxing coach, but I'm also a personal trainer! I really started getting into weight training when I was seventeen in my high school gym class. I was put into the co-ed classes (because the girls gym classes past grade eleven wasn't big enough on its own), and I loved the feeling of overpowering some of the egotistical high school boys. Yeah, I was a show-off, but at least I had something to show off. I was, and still am, pretty competitive. But now I want to encourage others to perform to their highest potential. A lot of people compare themselves to other people or fear they’ll get made fun of when they enter a gym for the first time, and that couldn’t be farther from the truth! People who go to the gym go to improve themselves and conquer their health and fitness goals. Everybody has to start somewhere and I want to help others feel motivated, safe, and confident in themselves in every way possible.

If you’re hesitant to start, have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email or phone and let's make a plan!

With love, Katie C.
